Puerto de la Duquesa |
||||||||||||||||||||
Puerto de la Duquesa is located at the base of the Costa del Sol, within the district of Manilva. Only 40 minutes from Malaga (on the pay road) and half an hour from Gibraltar, Puerto De La Duquesa is a lovely place. It's a laid back but cosmopolitan port, small and pretty in a traditional way and boasting a superb 360 berth yacht marina. It’s regarded as one of the best zones on the south coast, with a privileged all year round climate, sandy beaches and unspoilt natural scenery.![]() Fisherman landing in Duquesa Harbour Parking is free, albeit occasionally involving a bit of a drive round, and the resort feels safe, secure and welcoming, although you might be besieged by offers of knock-off DVDs and dubious watches. The vendors of these will not hassle you, however, being amenable to a smile and a ‘no thanks’. Playa de la Duquesa is the main hub of activity in the area, and offers beach restaurants and bars. You will also find the old castle, and Duquesa Marina. Punta Chullera is minutes away from La Duquesa and has coves and low cliffs. People enjoy underwater fishing here due to the clean and clear water. The people are friendly and welcoming, and the is architecture attractive. There are places-a-plenty to eat or sit and watch the world go by. ‘Valhala’ serves traditional English breakfasts and there are pubs such as ‘Ryder’s’, `Hemingway’s’, and ‘The Penguin’ which are great meeting places. Tapas can be found at La Taberna. If you are looking for Chinese there are four but ‘The Slow Boat to China’ comes highly recommended. If it’s Pizza’s you are after, ‘Il Capitano’ serves a good choice of Italian cuisine. For fish and chips there is ‘Billy the Fish’. Right besides La Duquesa is the small fishing village of El Castillo, a traditional Spanish village on the seafront which has a selection of Spanish restaurants famous for their fish specialties. The local bars and bodegas are very welcoming and the village is beautifully un-touristy. Back to map... |
