Eating Out Near Guadalupe Hills |

| Have a read through some of recommendations on food in the local area, there should hopefully be something for everyone here. We will be sure to add any more nuggets of information as they come our way. Casares Duquesa Estepona Sotogrande Duquesa "The port at Duquesa has full marina services with a variety of restaurants, bars and cafes. The pickiest should find something to their liking since the numerous restaurants around the district enable one to choose national and international cuisine served alongside some traditional dishes. Walking down the beach to the right, to El Castillo, and more real Spanish restaurants are to be found, from Tapas to fishy and formal. There are a couple of Indian restaurants and this year we were horribly tempted by The Passage to India which serves just fantastic food. I know, I know, you go all the way to Spain and order a chicken korma. Sometimes it just has to be done" - back to top Estepona "An excellent Chinese restaurant, with a buffet service where you select exactly what you wish the chefs to cook freshly for you, is at Estepona, and is called The Orient Express. For Pizzas, our favourite is Ciao, the pizzas are delicious and you can finish with an icecream from the shop next door, or there is Il Capitano opposite, but there is no shortage of Italian restaurants all serving much the same thing from pizzas to pasta, meats, salads and seafood. If you fancy being insulted, along sly, smiling, Canadian lines, try The Straw Donkey which offers a treat in sardonic humour and uneasy moments, as well as fantastic puddings (if you’re 10 and go for cream, ice-cream, marshmallow and chocolate brownies all in one bowl, that is). For fish & chips try Billy the Fish or by the Eroski. The kids’ portions are huge and they do a takeaway service, too. Sometimes you’ve just go to. For a full English breakfast and Danish food we’ve been told that there’s a place called Valhalla, but it’s not somewhere we know. There are a few “pubs” like Ryder’s, Hemingway’s and the Penguin, the sort of places to watch Sky TV. That’s not meant to sound judgemental. Honest" - back to top Casares "In Casares, there is the Artisan on the right as you drive from the apartments’ direction. Up steep steps and through a sort of antiquey shop, you eat out on the terrace where the view is simply spellbinding. It opens later than some, at eight, so we missed out on it this year by not realizing this. D’oh. There are also smart restaurants a-plenty. Our favourites are found on the road to Casares, before you reach the village itself and I feel weak with excitement just remembering our visits there. First up is Venta, situated on the left, a cool contemporary restaurant with nice napery, big windows and elegant service. Further on, on the right, is The Forge. Run by a charming English couple you enter through a candlelit heaven of pink and emerge on a pretty terrace. Great food, great evening, no hassle, but it is only open Weds - Sat evenings and Sunday lunch. La crème de la crème is Aroya just a little further on on the left (open Tuesday to Saturday I think). We want to move in and just be fed heavenly food. Compared to England, the prices of these three are fine, although a little more than in Duquesa. But oh so worth it. Yum. Phone up and book" - back to top Sotogrande ![]() Ke Ke Restaurant |
